Builder Score™ — Trademarked
The UK contractor trust rating built for construction
Builder Score™ is a 0–1000 trust rating published by Dwellinger Ltd for every contractor on the platform. It is calculated from six verified components: verified reviews (35%), CDM compliance record (20%), payment behaviour (15%), insurance and accreditation (15%), dispute resolution record (10%) and response rate and platform activity (5%). Score tiers: Platinum 900–1000, Gold 700–899, Silver 500–699, Bronze 0–499, Unrated.
How it's calculated
Six components. One number. Full transparency.
Every contractor sees their score breakdown. They know exactly which category is pulling their score down and what to do to improve it. The published weightings are shown below — each component independently assessed and verified.
Scores are recalculated continuously as new reviews are verified, compliance documents are updated, and project data is processed.
Only reviews tied to a confirmed completed project with photos and dates. Weighted by project value and recency.
Pre-Construction Information, Construction Phase Plan, and Health & Safety File present and correct for qualifying projects.
Supplier and subcontractor payment patterns. Late payments, disputes, and non-payment events are all tracked.
Current public liability (min. £2M), professional indemnity where applicable, trade body membership, and identity verification.
Outcome of any disputes lodged through Dwellinger, Trading Standards, or third-party resolution services.
Lead response time, communication quality, and platform engagement. Contractors who respond within 2 hours score higher.

Five tiers, clear standards

Why it matters
Construction-specific trust verification
Checkatrade shows reviews. Companies House shows registration. But neither tells you whether a contractor pays their subcontractors on time, has their CDM documents in order, or how they performed when a dispute arose. Builder Score™ combines all of this into one number — verified, audited, and continuously updated.

Common questions
Builder Score™ FAQ
What is a good Builder Score?
A Gold score (700–899) or Platinum score (900–1000) indicates a highly trusted, verified contractor. Silver (500–699) is solid for newer contractors building their history. Bronze (0–499) means less verified history is available.
How is Builder Score different from Checkatrade or Trustpilot?
Unlike star rating platforms, Builder Score is calculated from verified compliance data — CDM records, payment behaviour, insurance status and dispute outcomes — not just self-reported reviews. Every component is independently verified by Dwellinger.
How long does it take to get a Builder Score?
New contractors receive an Unrated status on day one. A verified Builder Score is issued within one working day of completing the identity and insurance verification checks.
